Know the main points and gist of the news at a glance

Jagran correspondent, Hisar. On Friday evening, flames started rising from plastic pipes kept near the railway power house in village Satroad. The time was around 4:30 in the evening. Within no time, the fire took such a fierce form that the black smoke rising from it started appearing in the sky up to Arya Nagar, about 17 kilometers away. Amidst this horrific accident, the matter of relief was that there was no loss of life due to the fire.

As soon as the information was received, the fire department came into action and fire tenders from various centers rushed towards the spot. The fire was brought under control after about one to two hours of effort. Considering the intensity of the fire, along with water, foam was also used, in which about 15 foam cans were used. By controlling the fire in time, this important power plant of the Railways was saved from damage.

In view of the emergency situation of fire, the railway personnel kept the power supply closed for about half an hour as a precautionary measure. The effect of this was that many goods trains and passenger trains were affected for some time. As soon as the information about the fire was received, the Municipal Corporation, the employees of the contractor under Amrit Project, B&R and HSVP officials were busy gathering information about the fire.

This incident was not the first. A similar fire broke out in plastic pipes about one and a half years ago in the Housing Board Colony located on Sirsa Road. Even then the pipes were still in use and it took a long time to control the fire, causing huge losses.

Five-six pipes burnt to ashes

According to fire brigade Pradeep, a passerby reported the fire at around 5 pm. After this, two vehicles from Azad Nagar fire station, one from Jindal Company, one from the main fire station located in front of GJU and a total of six vehicles from the Market Committee reached the spot. The first attempt to extinguish the fire was made by the railway power station. During this time about five-six pipes were burnt to ashes.

A mistake could have caused a major accident

According to the fire department, it took six vehicles to control the fire, some vehicles even took more than one trip. About 90 thousand liters of water was spilled in this fire. Railway technician Sandeep Kumar, present on the spot, said that the power supply was stopped as soon as the fire broke out, because a small mistake could have given rise to a major accident.

This power house has a capacity of 132 KV, which supplies electricity to the railways up to an area of about 50 kilometers. This power plant, built in the year 2016, remained completely safe and the fire had no effect on it.

Short circuit is the reason given

Initially the cause of the fire is believed to be short circuit. According to the fire personnel, these were STP pipes, which were lying there for a long time. There is a possibility of short-circuit in the electrical wires passing overhead. The fire brigade personnel also drew attention to the shortage of staff in the department. Where six personnel are required in one vehicle, at present the work is being carried out with the help of three employees only.
