MGM's Makeover! 'Green Signal' To Super Specialty Unit And Cath Lab, Those Who Are Negligent Will Be Punished

Jagran correspondent, Jamshedpur. A high-level team of the Health Department conducted a surprise inspection on Friday regarding the facilities available to patients at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College Hospital and the possibilities of increasing PG (Post Graduate) seats at the educational level. During this time, the team expressed great displeasure over the poor arrangement of the hospital and non-utilization of government funds.

Huge deficiencies seen in emergency and OPD

The team said that regular deployment of lift men should be ensured. There should be arrangements for proper benches and sheds for the attendants to sit outside the operation theatre.

Better infrastructure than private hospitals, then why is the service weak?

In the meeting held with the Heads of Departments (HODs) after the inspection, the attitude of the Joint Secretary was quite strict. He questioned that when the government has excellent buildings and experienced doctors, then why are the general public running towards private hospitals? He said that it is unfortunate that MGM is in the news for its irregularities.

Sharp questions on government funds

Joint Secretary raised serious questions on financial negligence. He said that the government is giving the authority to spend Rs 5 lakh each to each head of the department, yet the amount remains the same. Why is this money not being spent? Do officers not want to work?

Instructions regarding super specialty and cath lab

There was also discussion about starting super specialty services like cancer, neuro, heart and plastic surgery in the hospital.

The issue of prescribing medicines outside the hospital also heated up in the meeting. Although the doctors refused to write outside prescriptions, the Joint Secretary sarcastically asked that if you are not writing outside medicines, then why is there a crowd of patients at the shops outside the hospital gate.
