State Bureau, Patna. Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda has attacked the central government over the US-India trade agreement.
He alleged that the government has put the national interest, the livelihood of farmers and farmers at stake. Hooda was talking to press representatives at Sadaqat Ashram on Thursday. Apart from State President Rajesh Ram, many other leaders were also present in the press conference.
He said that Modi government sacrificed the interests of Indian farmers and farmers in the US-India trade agreement. Publicly played with India's energy security.
Serious questions were raised on India's digital autonomy and our data privacy. Instead of standing firm in defense of Indian interests, a helpless government compromised India's sovereignty and self-reliance. People are asking whether it is a strong government or a helpless government. Hooda said that trade agreements should be made on the basis of equality and mutual interest, but if through these the Indian market is opened to foreign agricultural products without protection, then it will have a direct impact on the farmers of the country.
He particularly expressed concern over the proposal for duty-free import of Dried Distiller Grain (DDG) and sorghum made from maize. He said crores of farmers in India are involved in the cultivation of maize and sorghum. If cheap and subsidized grains come from America without duty, prices will fall in the domestic market and farmers' income will be affected.
The Congress MP also raised the question whether the government held extensive discussions with the states, farmer organizations and Parliament before the agreement? Hooda demanded that the government make all the terms of the agreement public and ensure that the interests of farmers are protected.
