Three-day training program on Makhana production and processing. Awakening
Jagran correspondent, Darbhanga. Darbhanga Makhana Model: A three-day training program on the subject of Makhana production and processing was launched on Thursday at the National Makhana Research Center for experts from Krishi Vigyan Kendras of six districts of Uttar Pradesh.
Experts from Agricultural Science Centers of Gorakhpur, Maharajganj, Siddharthnagar, Balrampur, Gonda and Shravasti districts under Acharya Narendra Dev University of Agriculture and Technology, Faizabad participated in this training.
The program was inaugurated by jointly lighting the lamp by chief organizer cum center in-charge Dr. IS Singh, senior scientist Dr. Manoj Kumar and scientist SM Raut.
In the first session, Dr. Manoj Kumar, while throwing light on the possibilities of expansion of Makhana in the Purvanchal region of Uttar Pradesh, said that compared to the western part of the state, the higher rainfall here and abundant availability of surface water resources make it very suitable for Makhana production.
He said that the expansion of Makhana in Purvanchal will not only become a powerful means of increasing the income of local farmers, but will also help in supplying the increasing demand of Makhana in the global market and will ensure India's long-term leadership in this field at the international level.
He said that due to the efforts of the National Makhana Research Centre, Makhana is continuously expanding nationwide and till now more than 10 states have been trained for Makhana production.
Principal Scientist Dr. IS Singh gave detailed information on Makhana production technology, nursery management, nutrient management and processing techniques.
Discussing the modern machines used in Makhana processing, he said that along with production, coordinated development of processing infrastructure is necessary.
He also underlined that Makhana expansion in favorable areas outside Bihar will promote balanced agricultural development countrywide.
Technical Officer Ashok Kumar shared information about techniques related to plant protection and also took the trainees on a field tour. The program was conducted by Dr. Shivani Jha.
