Anuj Sharma, Amritsar. There was a flood of faith on the beginning of 2026 in Sri Harmandir Sahib located in Guru Nagri Amritsar. The residents of Guru Nagri as well as devotees and tourists from India and abroad started the New Year by paying obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib.
The process of arrival of devotees started from the morning of 31st December, which continued till late night. More than 2 lakh devotees paid obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib between 9 pm and 12 am. The situation was such that there was no space left even to set foot in the parikrama.
Despite the rain, there was no reduction in the crowd of devotees. It is estimated that on the first day of the new year i.e. today, January 1, around 3 lakh devotees can reach Sri Harmandir Sahib for darshan.

The crowd was so huge that the devotees had to put in a lot of effort even while walking in the parikrama. Devotees were seen everywhere. Wherever there was even a little space, people sat there and remained engrossed in Naam Simran and chanting while waiting for 12 o'clock in the night. During this time, a large number of devotees kept reciting Shri Sukhmani Sahib continuously.
Cheers echoed throughout the Golden Temple
As soon as the clock indicated 12 o'clock in the night, the entire Sri Harmandir Sahib echoed with the cheers of 'Jo Bole So Nihaal'. According to estimates, more than one lakh devotees were present in the premises at that time and an equal number of devotees were standing outside. At 12 o'clock in the night, people were seen distributing sweets and chocolates in the parikrama. Not only this, langar of Kadha Prasad was also set up outside the Golden Temple, so that the devotees do not face any problem.
