Jagran correspondent, outer Delhi. On Monday afternoon, a speeding truck crushed a one-year-old innocent girl near Azadpur vegetable market located in Mahendra Park police station area. Due to which he died on the spot. The girl has been identified as Durga.
The girl was sleeping on the roadside near her mother who was selling vegetables. After the accident, the driver ran away leaving the vehicle on the spot. Police have taken possession of the truck and registered a case against the driver. Police is searching for the driver.
According to the information, the girl lived in the slum of Banana Godown Shalimar Bagh with her mother Nirmala Devi, father Ashok Mandal and six siblings. The family is originally from Bhagalpur, Bihar. Nirmala sells onions near Azadpur vegetable market, while Ashok works as a labourer.
The girl was sleeping on the roadside
In the FIR lodged at Mahendra Park police station, Nirmala Devi said that on Monday around 3:30 pm, she was selling onions after putting her one-year-old youngest daughter Durga to sleep near her on the road side. She was busy with her work. Meanwhile, a truck driver came driving carelessly from Gate No. 1 of Azadpur Mandi.
The front left wheel of the truck ran over the sleeping girl. There was chaos after the incident. When the mother raised an alarm, the driver left the truck and ran away from there. With the help of neighbor Palledar Kuldeep, Nirmala Devi took her injured daughter to Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital in a battery rickshaw. Where the doctors declared him dead.
According to the police, the police received information about the incident at 4:30 pm. After reaching the hospital, the police took the body into custody. Police seized the truck at the spot. The police officer said that a case of death due to careless driving has been registered against the accused driver. Police are raiding the possible hideouts of the accused driver to identify him and arrest him.
