State Bureau, New Delhi. The challenge is to meet the increasing electricity demand in Delhi. There is a need to strengthen the infrastructure for uninterrupted power supply. Work has been started in this direction. In this context, Battery Energy Storage System BESS is being established. The first BESS was launched in Kilokari in South Delhi in May last year. Now the process of installing this system has started at four other places also.
Delhi Energy Minister Ashish Sood had inaugurated South Asia's largest battery energy storage system at the 33/11 KV Kilokari sub-station of BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) in South Delhi.
When the demand for electricity is low, it is charged from the grid electricity. The power goes back into the grid in case demand increases or in other emergencies. This ensures better power supply to consumers. With this, electricity supply can be ensured for four hours every day to about one lakh consumers of the Ashram area.
2.22 lakh consumers will get benefits
Seeing the success of this project, now BRPL has decided to set up four more BESS in South and West Delhi. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid its foundation stone in a program organized in Chandni Chowk area.
The total capacity of these projects will be 55.5 MW. About 2.22 lakh consumers will benefit from this. Of these, about 50,000 consumers in Shivalik, 1,28,000 in Dwarka (G-5), 16,000 in Dwarka (G-7) and 28,000 in Goyla Khurd will get better electricity supply. All projects are targeted to start before March 2027.
66/11 KV grid will be built in Mandoli
To improve power supply in North East Delhi, BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) is constructing a 66/11 KV gas-insulated grid station at Mandoli. This grid, costing Rs 55.5 crore, will be ready within 18 months. This grid will benefit more than 1.5 lakh consumers in Mandoli, Harsh Vihar, Bank Colony and its surrounding areas. The Chief Minister also laid its foundation stone.
