Garbage is being dumped in the corporation area in Sector 8 of IMT Manesar, after the installation of charcoal plant, there is hope of getting relief from the piles of garbage. Awakening
Sandeep Ratan, Gurugram. Due to non-availability of twenty acres of vacant land at Bandhwadi landfill, the plan to set up a charcoal plant, which was pending in the files, will now come to fruition in Manesar.
Now a charcoal plant will be set up for Gurugram and Manesar Municipal Corporation in Manesar Municipal Corporation area, in which charcoal will be prepared from garbage. For this, twenty acres of land of Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (HSIIDC) has been identified.
There is a plan to set up a plant near Prem Ki Dhani in Kasan. Manesar Municipal Corporation has started work regarding preparations related to the project including what will be the capacity of the plant and how long it will take.
Currently there is no plant
At present, since both the Municipal Corporations do not have any garbage disposal plant, mountains of garbage are being generated at Sector 8 and Bandhwadi landfills in Manesar. This problem is expected to be permanently solved after the plant is established.
Let us tell you that the plant construction work was to start from March 1, 2025, but NTPC has not received twenty acres of vacant land from Gurugram Municipal Corporation. Some part of the land was vacated, there is garbage lying everywhere and twenty acres of land is not available at present.

Gurugram Corporation had to vacate twenty acres of land and give it to NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Limited (NVVNL) to set up the plant on the landfill.
The deadline of 16 December 2026 was set to complete and start the plant construction work and an MOU was also signed for this.
Agency will start work in Bandhwadi this month
The disposal work has been entrusted to two agencies by the corporation. Work on the landfill has been stopped for a year. At present 15 lakh tonnes of garbage has been collected at the landfill. When the old agencies were working in 2024, only about eight lakh tonnes of garbage was left without disposal.
Due to delay in getting approval of tenders from the headquarters and non-performance by agencies, now double the amount of garbage has reached the landfill.
Let us inform that in relation to a case going on in the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Gurugram Municipal Corporation had set the deadline for disposal of Bandhwadi garbage till 31 December 2024 and thereafter till December 2025, but the work could not be completed.
Now the agencies that have recently been entrusted with the work will have to dispose of the entire garbage within a period of one year, February-March 2027.
One thousand tons of garbage coming from Faridabad
The waste of Faridabad city is also reaching Bandhwadi. Faridabad Corporation has not made arrangements for proper disposal of its garbage. Gurugram Corporation has written letters several times to Faridabad Municipal Corporation officials asking them not to send garbage. 2200 tonnes of garbage reaches Bandhwadi every day from Gurugram and Faridabad. More than one thousand tonnes of garbage is being sent to Bandhwadi every day from Faridabad alone.
This is how charcoal is prepared from garbage
In a charcoal plant, charcoal (fuel like coal) is prepared by burning or heating solid waste with special technology. Charcoal is used as domestic fuel, industrial furnaces, cement and steel industries.
The advantage of a charcoal plant is that it reduces the amount of waste and reduces pressure on landfills. Also, production of energy from waste promotes environmental protection.
