New Delhi. Reliance Industries Limited, the largest buyer of Russian crude oil in India, has not yet purchased any oil from Javari. However, due to oil available at a discount, government refineries have increased imports. Currently, Russian crude oil is available at a discount of $7 per barrel, which is three times the discount available in mid-2025. Industry sources said that Reliance will buy Russian crude oil at the rate of about six lakh barrels per day in 2025. During this time, it was said to be the largest buyer of Russian crude oil in the world.
Indian Oil bought the highest amount till date
Indian Oil Corp bought an average of 4,70,000 barrels of crude per day in January, data compiled by maritime intelligence firm Kpler shows. This is the highest till date. Indian Oil had purchased 4,27,000 barrels per day of crude oil in December 2025.
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) bought 1,64,000 barrels per day of crude oil this month, which is more than the 1,43,000 barrels per day it purchased in December 2025. Nayara Energy, a subsidiary of Russian oil major Rosneft, continued to import crude oil from Russia and bought about 4,69,000 barrels per day of oil this month.
Russian oil imports were slightly less in the first week of January
However, Hindustan Petroleum and Mangalore Refinery did not purchase any Russian crude oil. Russian oil imports fell slightly to 1.1 million barrels per day in the first week of January, from 1.2 million barrels per day in December. This decline in imports reflects the impact of US sanctions on Russia's two largest oil importers, Rosneft and Lukoil. These restrictions have come into effect from November 21.
