Which caste will become mayor of which city in Maharashtra?
Digital Desk, New Delhi. In the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation elections today, Thursday, January 22, mayors are being elected in 29 municipal corporations including BMC. It has been announced to become a woman mayor in BMC through lottery system. The post of Mumbai Mayor has been reserved for general category candidates.
The Urban Development Department conducts a lottery to decide which category the post of Mayor will fall under, such as General, Women or Backward Classes. After this process, now eligible candidates of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will file their nomination.
Next, the elected councilors will vote in a special assembly, where the candidate receiving more than half of the votes among all the candidates will be elected mayor.
Mayor of which caste in which city?
Apart from BMC, mayor's seats have also been reserved for women in Pune, Dhule, Nanded, Navi Mumbai, Malegaon, Mira Bhayandar, Nashik and Nagpur.
Mayor seats have been reserved for the Scheduled Caste (SC) category in a total of five municipal corporations including Latur, Jalna and Thane. Of these, Latur and Jalna Municipal Corporation seats have been reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) women.
