A case of murder of a soldier has come to light in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. The soldier was returning home with a companion after dropping off a friend at Kohdar Market. They got into an argument with the accused in a Scorpio car. The accused hit the soldier on the head with a rod. The injured man died during treatment.
Army man Vivek Singh (30), who was returning home with another friend after attending his cousin's wedding in Karchana, Prayagraj, was attacked on the head with a rod and killed. He was attacked and left half dead by Scorpio riders after a dispute over overtaking a vehicle near Dharwara village. He died in the Army Hospital in Lucknow on Monday morning.
Karchana police station registered an FIR on the father's complaint and arrested Rajkamal Pandey (ASI), Rajiv Kumar Thakur (Army man), Scorpio owner Dinesh Kumar Yadav, Raju Agrahari and brother Lal Yadav four hours after the incident.
Vivek, son of Umakant Singh, a resident of Dharwara village in the Karchana police station area, was a soldier in the Army and was stationed in Delhi. He had come home on leave on Saturday to attend his cousin's wedding. On the night of the wedding, he drove his friend Vinay Jain to Kohdar Bazaar with Karan Singh, also from the same village.
While returning, near Dharwara turn, he got into an argument with some young men returning from a wedding procession in a Scorpio over overtaking. Then, he was attacked from behind with an iron rod on his head. Vivek fell unconscious.
His family took him first to Karchana CHC and, after being referred from there, to the Army Hospital in Lucknow, where he died around 3 a.m. on Monday morning. The news of this caused a furor in the family.
The accused were identified by the vehicle number. During interrogation, they said they were refusing to give way
Upon receiving information about the death of a soldier, who was attacked with rods by five men, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in a Scorpio, following a dispute over overtaking, a large number of people gathered at the police station and demanded action. Upon learning of the soldier's death, DCP Yamunanagar Vivek Chandra Yadav and ACP Karchana Arun Tripathi arrived at the scene with their team and spoke with the family, assuring them of the arrest of the accused.
Under the direction of Yamunanagar DCP Vivek Chandra Yadav, a team of Special Operations Group (SOG) and Karchana police identified and arrested the accused based on the vehicle number within four hours of the soldier's death. During police interrogation, the accused revealed that they were returning home in a Scorpio after attending a wedding.
He said that a Tata Punch car was driving erratically in front of his car near Dharwara village. Despite honking, he was refused passage to overtake. The dispute led to a stop, and a scuffle broke out. The driver was injured after being pushed and fell onto the road, and everyone fled the scene. However, the soldier's father has alleged that he was murdered by hitting him with a rod.
The ASI is posted at the Radio Branch in the Mirzapur Police Lines
Police investigation revealed that the accused, Rajkamal Pandey, a resident of Naini Chaka, is posted as an ASI at the Radio Branch in the Mirzapur Police Lines. Following the arrest of the accused, Prayagraj police contacted the Mirzapur police and informed them of the incident. Rajiv Kumar Thakur is a soldier posted in Indore, while Sunil Kumar Thakur is an advocate, and Raju Agrahari and his brother, Lal Yadav, work in private practice.
Vivek was the younger of two brothers
Family members say Vivek's post-mortem will be conducted at the Army Hospital in Lucknow. The body will then arrive in the village late at night. Vivek was the younger of the two brothers. His family includes his wife, Pratibha, and three-year-old son, Vedant, who are inconsolable. His father, Umakant Singh, is a retired Subedar from the Army.
