EU starts investigation against Grok AI (symbolic photo)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Elon Musk's company This investigation has started after a huge protest by the company's 'Grok' over the dissemination of obscene images.
The European Commission, the executive arm of the 27-nation bloc, said on Monday it would investigate whether X protected users by appropriately assessing and mitigating risks related to Grok's practices.
The investigation comes two weeks after British media regulator Ofcom launched its own investigation into concerns that Grok was creating sexually intimate deepfake photos, and after Indonesia, the Philippines and Malaysia temporarily blocked the chatbot.
The Commission had said earlier this month that the indecent images generated by AI being shared on X are illegal and horrifying.
At the same time, the European Commission said on Monday that it has formally designated WhatsApp as a very large platform under the EU's Digital Services Act (DSA), making it more responsible to deal with illegal and harmful content. (With inputs from news agency Reuters)
