China stopped citizens from traveling to Japan (Xi Jinping- file photo)
Digital Desk, New Delhi. China on Monday warned its citizens not to travel to Japan during next month's Lunar New Year holidays. It is the longest public holiday in China.
Tensions between the two countries have increased since Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi made comments about Taiwan in early November. The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Chinese citizens in Japan face serious security threats.
Beijing issued a similar warning in November after Takaichi's comments in which he said a possible Chinese attack on Taiwan could lead to military action by Tokyo. This comment enraged Beijing, in response to which it banned exports, canceled flights and made sharp remarks.
