State Bureau, Dehradun. Lakhpati Didi Yojana is proving to be a game changer for women associated with women self-help groups in rural areas of Uttarakhand. So far, more than 2.5 lakh women have become Lakhpati Didi in the state. That means they are earning more than one lakh rupees annually.
Now the government has set a target of taking the annual income of more than five lakh women belonging to these groups beyond one lakh in the next two years. In this regard, instructions have also been issued by the government to the officers of the Rural Development Department. Women play an important role in the formation of the state and then its development. In view of this, the government took steps towards the formation of women self-help groups through the Rural Development Department with a view to empowering women economically. At present, more than 68 thousand women self-help groups have been formed under the Livelihood Mission of the Central and State Government. These groups are preparing various products based on local resources. In order to empower the women associated with the groups, Lakhpati Didi Yojana was started in the year 2002 as per the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Under this, women are being linked to livelihood by providing them training in agriculture, horticulture, local products, sewing and embroidery as well as cooking gas distribution, primary veterinary services, insurance scheme, digital transactions.
Also the focus has been on the availability of markets for the sale of the groups products. It has yielded meaningful results. From the beginning of the scheme till December 2025, 2.54 lakh women in the state have become Lakhpati Didi. He is getting an annual income of more than one lakh rupees. In the current financial year, 91,445 women have become Lakhpati Didi against the target of 1.20 lakh.

To enhance the livelihood of women groups, Chief Minister Sashakt Bahana Utsav Yojana was also implemented from August, 2023. At present more than 35 thousand women are taking advantage of it. Under the scheme, women groups have so far done business worth Rs 9.11 crore.
