State Bureau, Lucknow. Skill development programs are being intensified to make the youth employable in the state.
From the year 2019 to February 2026, 16,01,791 youth were enrolled under the Skill Development Mission, although currently 2,97,652 youth have got employment in various sectors. The Mission is now focusing equally on quality and placement along with training.
Skill development schemes are being taken forward by linking them with the needs of the district level. Training sectors have been decided in each district based on the demand of the industries and the interest of the youth, so that training can be directly linked to employment and the youth get better opportunities.
There are currently 1,565 training partners and 13,398 training centers active under the mission. The youth are being prepared for employment and self-employment by giving them an average of 240 hours of training.
According to mission data, out of 16,01,791 youth enrolled, 7,98,978 have been given training. Out of these, assessment of 6,90,582 candidates was completed, while 2,97,652 youth have got appointment in various fields.
A strict approach is being adopted to ensure the quality of training. . Forty-nine training partners have been blacklisted after irregularities were found, while more than two dozen training providers have been debarred for two years.
Efforts to reduce the gap between skills and industry
Presently youth are being trained in 35 sectors and more than 1300 job roles. Training is being imparted in many sectors including Agriculture, Automobile, Beauty & Wellness, Capital Goods, Construction, Household Works, Electronics, Food Processing, Green Jobs, Handicraft-Carpet, Health Care, IT, Logistics, Management, Media & Entertainment, Plumbing, Energy and Textiles.
Vocational and Skill Development Minister Kapil Dev Aggarwal says that in the coming time, the main focus of the mission will be on creating strong links from training to direct employment, so that more and more youth can get permanent employment and self-employment opportunities. Efforts are also being made to bridge the gap between skills and industry demand.
