Digital Desk, New Delhi. Amidst the increasing political tension in Pakistan, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has started a new political debate by proposing talks with the opposition party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

This offer has come at a time when PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi have been sentenced to 17 years each in a corruption case and protests are expected in the country.

Chairing the federal cabinet meeting in Islamabad, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that if PTI seriously wants dialogue, the government is also fully ready for talks. He made it clear that talks should be held only on legitimate issues and there should not be any kind of politics of threat or pressure.

Shehbaz Sharif stressed that harmony among all political parties is necessary for the development and stability of the country. This statement of the Prime Minister has come at a time when the opposition alliance Tehri Tahafuz-e-Ain-e-Pakistan (TTAP) had also said that the doors are open for dialogue. However, no concrete initiative has been taken yet regarding talks between the two sides. Earlier, the talks that started in December were stuck on many issues.

Imran Khan directed to protest against 'Asim Law'

Pakistan's jailed former Prime Minister Imran Khan has instructed Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to prepare for street protests against the 'Assam Law'. This is apparently a reference to defense forces chief Asim Munir.

In a post on X on Monday, Khan said that my message to Sohail Afridi is that he should be ready for street agitation. The entire country should stand up for its rights. Fighting for justice is a sacred duty and I am ready to sacrifice my life for the true freedom of my country. (With inputs from news agency PTI)
