Bajrang Setu is under construction after Lakshmanjhula bridge was closed for traffic on 13 July 2019. Jagran

Jagran correspondent, Rishikesh. The construction work of Bajrang Setu will be completed by the end of this month. Both local people and tourists will benefit from the construction of the bridge. The construction work was running two years behind schedule.

The nearly 93-year-old Laxmanjhula bridge, connecting Tapovan in Tehri district and Laxmanjhula in Pauri district, was closed for traffic on 13 July 2019 due to security reasons. The construction work of Bajrang Setu started near this bridge. Public Works Department Narendranagar had started the construction work of the bridge in the year 2022. The target was to complete it in December 2024.

The 132.30 meter span bridge is being constructed at a cost of about Rs 68.86 crore. The deadline for bridge construction was extended five times. There was a plan to extend the time limit and open it for the general public on November 9, the state foundation day. After that the deadline for completing the work was extended to December 31. Now the work of this bridge is almost completed. The work will be completed in the first month of this year.

This is the specialty of the bridge

As per the announcement of the Chief Minister, the construction work of Bajrang Setu is going on under the Central Road Infrastructure Fund. The width of this suspension bridge is eight meters. In this the middle part is of six meters. Whereas glass decks of one and a half meter each are to be installed on both sides. The bridge has been designed keeping in mind the movement of devotees and tourists throughout the year. In this, provision has been made for replica of Kedarnath temple and glass deck for pedestrians. Light four-wheeler movement is proposed in the middle of the bridge. The bridge is important for devotees, tourists as well as local people and businessmen.

Everyone is waiting for the movement to start

Due to closure of Laxmanjhula bridge, local people and tourists have to travel through Ramjhula bridge and Janaki bridge. In the year 2023, Tehri administration also stopped the movement of two-wheelers on Ramjhula bridge. Only pedestrians are traveling on the bridge. Kanwar takes place every year in July-August. With the construction of Bajrang Setu, local people, devotees and tourists would have the facility to go directly to Laxmanjhula from Tapovan. Now they have to come to Ramjhula bridge and Janaki bridge. People going to Neelkanth route go from Brahmapuri via Garudchatti bridge.

The construction work of Bajrang Setu is going on in the final stage. Work on glass etc. is being done. The work will be completed in the last week of January. - Praveen Karnawal, Executive Engineer, PWD, Narendranagar
