Jagran correspondent, Angul. A passenger bus of Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC) lost control and overturned near Salur bypass in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Monday.

Of the 29 passengers on board the bus, seven were seriously injured in the accident, while others suffered minor injuries. The accident occurred around 1 am when the bus was going from MV-79 village of Malkangiri to Visakhapatnam.

Possibility of steering lock

According to preliminary information, the steering of the bus suddenly got jammed as soon as it reached Salur bypass. The driver tried to regain control of the vehicle, but the bus overturned on the roadside.

There was hue and cry on the spot after the accident. Nearby villagers and passers-by immediately arrived for help and started taking out the injured.

As soon as the information was received, Salur police and emergency services team reached the spot. With the help of local people, the police evacuated all the passengers safely from the bus.

Condition of seven critical, referred to Vizianagaram

The injured were immediately taken to the government hospital in Salur by ambulance. After first aid, considering the serious condition of seven passengers, they were referred to Vizianagaram District Hospital for better treatment.

According to doctors, some passengers have suffered deep injuries in the head, hands and legs, although the condition of all is said to be stable at present.

Police have started investigating the accident. Officials say that a detailed investigation of the technical aspects of the bus is being conducted so that the reason for the steering lock can be confirmed. Statements of the driver and eyewitnesses are being recorded.

Transport department officials of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are also in touch. Documents related to the fitness and maintenance of the bus will also be examined. The administration has assured that all possible assistance will be provided to the injured.
