PTI, New Delhi. Taking major action in Wazirpur area of North Delhi, police have recovered defunct currency worth crores of rupees. According to police sources, during the raid several bags filled with old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes were found.
According to the police, these notes were declared illegal after demonetization in November 2016. In this raid conducted on the basis of information, many people have been detained from the spot. Police have also seized two vehicles carrying the cash.
An official said that the amount seized is huge and it is currently being ascertained from where such amount of demonetised currency was brought and for what purpose it was being used.
He said that we are interrogating the detained people to find out the source and network of the cash. Investigation of the matter is ongoing.
