Oman released new note.
Digital Desk, New Delhi. Oman has introduced its first polymer one-riyal banknote, which is designed to be longer lasting and more secure than previous notes. This new banknote will come into circulation from January 11, 2026 and also shows the country's cultural and economic achievements.
The one-riyal polymer banknote issued by the Central Bank of Oman is the first time a currency has been issued in this material. Unlike traditional cotton-based notes, the polymer is durable and has advanced security features to help prevent counterfeit notes.
What is the specialty of this note?
The size of this note is 145 by 76 mm, which is a combination of design, heritage and national pride. On the front is the Oman Botanical Garden, reflecting the country's commitment to preserving its natural heritage.
The reverse shows the Sayyid Tariq bin Taimur Cultural Complex, Duqm Port and Refinery, showcasing Oman's cultural sites and economic progress.
Together, these pictures present a clear picture of the country's identity and achievements.
Special attention given to security features
A large transparent window, inspired by the arched windows of the Oman Botanic Gardens, looks good and provides security. The front features a color-changing foil depicting a frankincense tree, while the Central Bank logo is printed in bright, color-changing ink on the back.
These features make this note special and safe. The Central Bank has confirmed that the new polymer note will be compatible with the existing one-riyal banknote and will remain fully legal for transactions.
Additionally, collectors and the general public can purchase the Limited Edition, which includes 1,000 uncut sheets and 10,000 specially packaged notes.
