PUNBUS employees have gone on strike amid Bharat Bandh and mid day meal workers did not prepare mid day meal today.
Jagran correspondent, Amritsar. PUNBUS workers and temporary employees of various departments in the district went on strike on Wednesday in support of the Bharat Bandh called by trade unions. The Bharat Bandh call had a widespread impact on transport and school services. Due to the chakka jam organized by Punjab Roadways, Panbus, PRTC Contract Workers Union and other organizations, government buses did not run on almost 80 percent of the routes.
Limited buses were run by only regular employees. Passengers faced a lot of trouble as government bus services remained affected throughout the day. Especially women, students and people going to remote areas had to resort to private buses or other means. Employees belonging to various unions gathered at the bus stand and kept raising slogans against the government.
Union leaders alleged that the government was ignoring their demands and efforts were being made to suppress their voices. They claimed that an attempt was also made to raid the houses of some officials in the morning. It was warned that if the action was not stopped, the strike could be extended indefinitely.
