Dialogue thread, Jawali. There is anger among the villagers over the increasing illegal activities in Pong Dam Wildlife Sanctuary and the cruelty towards helpless cattle. People of Jawali and surrounding villages have sent a letter to Chief Minister Sukhu through the Sub-Divisional Officer, demanding immediate intervention in the matter.

The villagers told in the letter that this wetland, which is called a national property, has now become a safe haven for land mafia, poachers and mischievous elements. People said that hunters are filling explosive material in balls of flour to kill wildlife, many cows have died after eating them.

Unabated hunting is being done by putting poisonous seeds in the area. In the letter, the villagers said that due to the laxity of the Wildlife Department, these anti-social elements have got a free hand.

Through this letter, people have raised the demand from the Chief Minister to take strictest legal action against the guilty poachers and land mafia. Before handing over this demand letter to the Chief Minister through SDM, people gathered in Jawali and expressed their anger over the above incidents.

During this time, local people including Naseeb Singh Guleria, Milkhi Ram Sharma, Mangat Ram, Ujagar Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Des Raj, Vijay Singh, Sudhir Kumar, Rajiv Kumar, Dineshwar Singh, Jabar Singh, Ravindra Singh, Vimla Devi, Rajni Bala and many other villagers were present. Villagers say that this matter is related to public interest and if the government does not take concrete steps soon, they will be forced to protest.
