Controversy over UGC post in BHU, police registered case after student was beaten.
Jagran correspondent, Varanasi. On Tuesday night, two groups of students came face to face in a dispute over a post on Facebook in Rajaram Hostel of Banaras Hindu University (BHU). It is alleged that during this time, some students, angry over sharing the video and photo of the procession taken out in support of UGC on Facebook, brutally beat up a student.
The victim, student Adarsh Kumar, had shared pictures and videos of the event organized in support of UGC on his Facebook account. This post caused anger among the students of other groups. Adarsh Kumar, a first year MA history student, said he suffered serious injuries on his stomach and head due to the beating.
Adarsh also told that the attackers had threatened him. Students of political science and sociology participated in this incident. Adarsh Kumar had gone to the mess to eat food when he was suddenly attacked. The attackers not only injured him but also snatched his mobile. In this matter, Lanka Police has registered a case on the basis of complaint.
On Adarsh's complaint, the police have registered a case against four unidentified accused including Abhay Chaturvedi, Ashu Singh, Amit, Ankit Singh, who is a second year MA student. Adarsh alleges that the attackers were already waiting for him in ambush. As soon as he reached the mess, he was attacked on the head.
Considering the seriousness of the matter, the police have started investigation. This incident has raised questions regarding security in BHU campus. Student organizations have also condemned the incident and demanded appropriate action from the university administration. However, there is no mention of the controversy regarding UGC in the complaint.
Such incidents have not only made the atmosphere in BHU tense these days but have also spoiled the environment of education. Tension among students also affects the academic environment of the university. However, the BHU administration has timely started action against the accused students regarding the matter.
