Priority For Pedestrians On Roads In Bihar: Facilities Will Increase, Coordination With Road Construction And Rural-urban Development Department.

Kumar Rajat, Patna. The Transport Department is going to take a big initiative regarding the convenience of pedestrians. Pedestrians will be given first priority among vehicles on the road. Their safety will also be taken care of and facilities will also be increased.

For this, reports on the points of improvement have been called from all the districts of the state. On this basis, a detailed action plan is being prepared. Under this, zebra crossings, underpasses, foot over bridges, footpaths etc. will be built on busy roads for pedestrians. In this, help of Road Construction, Urban Development and Housing Department and Rural Works Department will also be taken.

The Transport Department has sought from all the districts a list of resources and facilities related to road safety on busy roads. All District Transport Officers (DTOs) have been instructed to identify such roads in their respective areas where footpaths, foot overbridges, zebra crossings and underpasses are required for pedestrians.

Apart from this, a report has also been sought regarding the need for traffic signals. It has also been asked to investigate the current condition of the busy roads where these facilities already exist. Officials have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with zebra crossings in cities. Instructions have been given to identify those places where more accidents are occurring on National Highways and State Highways and take improvement measures.

Pedestrians have first right on the road

The Transport Department is also running an awareness campaign regarding the safety and awareness of pedestrians. For this, help of jingles is also being taken along with hoardings. In this too, it is being publicized that pedestrians have the first right on the road. A video titled 'Safety Ka Sawaal' has also been made, in which drivers have been appealed to give way to pedestrians by applying brakes at zebra crossings.
