Protest continues outside the Chief Engineer's office.

The protest by the Shahpurkandi Barrage Average Sangharsh Committee of Pathankot continued for the 264th day outside the office of the Chief Engineer of Ranjit Sagar Dam Project regarding their pending demands. This strike is continuing since April 2. Despite a long time, no concrete steps have been taken.

Members of the Sangharsh Committee said that due to the indifference of the government and administration, there is deep resentment among the affected families. He said that a month has passed since the assurance given by the Chief Minister, but no action has been taken yet.

This makes it clear that the administration is not taking the problems of average families seriously. Committee leaders say that this movement has become the longest and most difficult of the struggles so far. Despite the long-running hunger strike, the patience of the struggling families is beginning to wear off due to no concrete initiative being taken by the government.

He said that despite repeated memorandums and talks, their demands were being ignored. The people sitting on the dharna say that the families who faced displacement due to the Shahpurkandi Barrage and Ranjit Sagar Dam project, have neither received full compensation nor proper arrangements for rehabilitation have been made till now. In such a situation, the affected families are facing a double blow.

Demand for permanent solution

The Sangharsh Committee bluntly said that until a permanent solution to the demands of the average families is found, their agitation and hunger strike will continue. He warned that if the administration did not take any concrete steps soon, the agitation would be further intensified.

The entire responsibility of which will be on the government and administration. Rajat Balotra, Jaswinder Singh (Village Jugiyal), Yuvraj Singh (Village Chhanni), Ravinder Kumar (Shahpurkandi) and Rohit Kumar (Village Adiyal) and other affected families were present during the protest.
