Dharmesh Awasthi, Lucknow. The double decker bus that met with the accident on Purvanchal Expressway was running flouting the rules. More than 150 people were traveling in the 48 seater bus to various districts of UP and Bihar state. While moving on the road, the bus committed every crime including overspeeding, number plate, without insurance, without permit, that is why not one or two but 67 challans were received. Even after this, the bus crossed half of UP via Punjab, Haryana and reached Lucknow, but no one stopped or interrupted it.
Double decker bus number HR 55 AF 1323 is registered in Hisar district of Haryana in the name of Pradeep Kumar son of Dharampal of Gurgaon. The fitness of the bus was valid till 27th August 2027, insurance till 27th August 2026 and the permit was valid till 3rd June 2029. Apart from this, the bus was full of all kinds of defects.
RTO enforcement officer Prabhat Pandey, who conducted the investigation, said that at the time of registration, 16 sleeper and 32 seating seats were stamped on the bus, whereas 43 sleeper and nine seating seats were found on the prototype. The rear portion was extended incorrectly. Not only this, arrangements for sleeping of four people in the sleeper were made arbitrarily.
ARTO enforcement Alok Yadav said, there is a rule to keep the emergency door at the back of the gallery of sleeper bus, but in this bus, it was closed and a small exit was made on the right side, a sleeper seat was also installed in front of it. RTO said, FIR will be lodged against the bus owner and another investigation will be conducted by the divisional inspector on Tuesday.

Luggage, shoes and slippers were scattered in the bus. People had boarded the bus from many cities including Ludhiana, Ambala Cantt, Panipat. There were more than 250 passengers in the bus on the first day. The woman going to Muzaffarpur said, at the time of entering UP, there were 150 passengers left in the bus, before that people were standing in the gallery. After the accident, shoes, slippers and other items were scattered in the bus parked at the toll gate, all the glass of the bus was broken. The liquor bottles were gossiping about the drivers being drunk. 31 passengers were sent in a bus, several quintals of goods were loaded. The Transport Department has sent 31 passengers in a bus to the state of Bihar. More than 70 passengers from Bihar were present at the toll gate. Everyone had a lot of stuff. Most of the passengers from UP went towards their destination by other means. Many passengers had to go to Forbesganj Nepal. Everyone was requesting that how will he carry so much luggage. That means, along with the passengers, several quintals of luggage was also loaded in the bus.
