The Kremlin has informed that Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday had a telephone conversation with his longtime ally Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

The talks took place against the backdrop of rising tensions between the two countries after the US military seized an oil tanker off the Venezuelan coast. According to the Kremlin's statement, Putin confirmed Russia's support towards Venezuela in this conversation.
Vladimir Putin expressed solidarity with the Venezuelan people and confirmed his support for the Maduro government's policy aimed at protecting national interests and sovereignty in the face of growing external pressure, the Kremlin said in a statement released after the phone call.
