The Dead Man Himself Filled The Insurance Form? Policy Purchased 45 Days After Death, This Is How The Scary Truth Of Fraud Worth Crores Revealed

Dialogue partner, Jagran, Bahjoi. Another case of grabbing insurance claims by issuing fake insurance policies through online platforms has come to light. Investigation revealed that the person in whose name the online term insurance policy was made through Bharat Pay platform had died 45 days before the policy was issued, whereas the documents showed his death 51 days after the policy was issued.

Not only this, the insurance claim was submitted almost two and a half years after the death. After the investigation proved fraud, the insurance company has registered a case against the nominee who submitted the claim. After investigation, the death certificate was canceled and a report was lodged. A report has been lodged at Asmoli police station by Umesh Kumar, representative of ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Lucknow.

It was told that the insurance application was made through Bharat Pay app in the name of Prakash, a resident of Garwara village of the area and it was declared that the insured was completely healthy. On the basis of these announcements, the insurance company issued a policy, in which the risk date was shown as December 4, 2020. In which the name of his wife Kailadevi was registered as the nominee.

Later, claim information was given to the insurance company on 31 July 2023, in which the date of death was shown as 24 January 2021. Soon, due to the initial claim, an investigation was conducted, in which it became clear that the actual death of policyholder Prakash had occurred on 20 October 2020. The death certificate dated 24 January 2021 submitted along with the claim was shown.

This was issued by Gram Panchayat Garwara on 15 February 2024, however, it was canceled after investigation. Apart from this, another death certificate dated 26 April 2020 was also found, which was issued on 2 February 2021, which was also canceled after RTI filed on 9 May 2024. After this, while preparing the complete report, the representative of the insurance company met the Superintendent of Police and demanded action, due to which a report was registered against the nominee Kaila Devi.

How is insurance done through Bharat Pay, where is the possibility of error?

The group life insurance facility on the BharatPay platform is available to merchants who are registered on the app. To get insurance, the consumer has to first login to the Bharat Pay app and choose from the available insurance plans. After this it is mandatory to answer questions related to eligibility criteria and health. The applicant has to declare that he is not suffering from any serious illness.

On the basis of this declaration, the insurance company accepts the risk and issues the policy. The possibility of fault starts from where the information given in the online process is not immediately confirmed at the physical level. If the applicant provides wrong health information or documents are uploaded in the name of a deceased person, the system does not catch it at the initial stage.

This type of fraud comes to light only later when the claim is submitted and a thorough investigation takes place. For this reason, in cases of death occurring in the initial period, insurance companies conduct detailed investigation, so that any kind of forgery or fraud can be detected.
