State Bureau, Patna. No change will be made in the limits or jurisdiction of any rural or urban administrative unit in the state till March 31 of the next year.
At present, 534 rural and 265 urban administrative units (including one Cantonment Board) are notified in Bihar, on the basis of which the census work will be completed.
With the aim of speeding up the census preparations, the second important meeting of the State Level Census Coordination Committee was held on Tuesday.
This decision was taken there. The meeting was presided over by Chief Secretary Pratyaya Amrit. Senior officials of various departments of the state government participated in it.
Guidelines issued for census
It was told in the meeting that Census-2027 will be conducted in two phases. In the first phase, listing and counting of houses will be done. It will be conducted over a period of 30 days between April to September 2026.
The responsibility of deciding the period of execution of this phase and publishing the notification related to it in the State Gazette has been entrusted to the Revenue and Land Reforms Department as the nodal department.
A total of 33 questions will be asked in this phase, which will be related to the condition of the houses, usage, available facilities, assets and consumption of main grains. These questions have been notified by the Government of India.
Instructions were given in the meeting that the District Magistrate in every district should immediately ensure the formation of District Census Officer, other junior Census Officer, and District Level Census Coordination Committee.
Also, priority should be given to the establishment and strengthening of census cell at the district and charge level. Specifically, the districts were directed to prepare a certified list of special areas of their area like cantonments, military and paramilitary areas and restricted areas like prisons, railway premises, forest areas, thermal power plants etc. and provide them to the Directorate of Census Operations.
