This visit, being held on the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is Putin's first visit to India after four years. During this period, special attention will be given to defense cooperation between the two countries, protecting trade from external pressures and partnership in small modular reactors.
Putin will reach Delhi today at 4:30 pm
The Russian President will reach New Delhi around 4:30 pm on Thursday evening. A few hours after this, Prime Minister Modi will organize a private dinner in his honour. Earlier, when PM Modi visited Russia, Putin had organized a dinner for him.
Putin will be given a formal welcome on the morning of Friday 5 December. This will be followed by the 23rd India-Russia annual summit, where both the leaders will discuss key issues. After the summit, Putin will launch RT's new India channel. After this, President Draupadi Murmu will host a state banquet in his honour.

This visit of Putin is taking place on the occasion of completion of 25 years of India-Russia strategic partnership. This partnership began in October 2000. In December 2010, it was upgraded to the status of 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership'.
