A training program was organized by Tatanagar Railway Civil Defense to make rail travel safe and deal with emergency situations. 400 assistant and trainee loco pilots newly appointed by the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) participated in this session organized at the Electric Loco Pilot Training Center on Thursday.
Pilot's first responsibility in case of fire
Coach separation and safety standards
Experts said that the coach which is on fire should be separated from other bogies at a distance of 45 meters so that the fire does not spread to other parts. Also, appropriate measures should be taken to prevent the train from rolling down.
Major causes and prevention of fire
Highlighting the carelessness of passengers and technical reasons, the inspector said that carrying inflammable substances (gas stove, cylinder, petrol, firecrackers) is prohibited. Throwing beedis, cigarettes and burning matchsticks are major causes of fire.
Mock Drill and First Aid
Trainees were taught the Rule of Nine, the Try Edge method, and Stop, Drop and Roll techniques in case of body fire. A crawling method to safely escape from the engine when filled with smoke was also demonstrated.
At the same time, demonstrator Anamika Mandal gave detailed information about the first aid given to the injured passengers.
