Receipt Will Have To Be Given On Collecting Documents For SIR, Supreme Court Orders Election Commission

Digital Desk, New Delhi. The Supreme Court on Thursday, January 29, gave several important directions to the Election Commission regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

The court said that the Election Commission should implement the method prescribed by the court for submitting the documents of those voters who have been placed in the logical discrepancy category during the SIR of the voter list of West Bengal in Tamil Nadu.

After this decision of the Supreme Court, the Election Commission requested the Court to implement this process in all the states where SIR is being conducted.

In its order, the Supreme Court bench recorded, 'We expect that the Election Commission will follow these instructions throughout India.'

Supreme Court gave orders to the Election Commission

A bench of Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justice Joymalya Bagchi said, 'The names of voters placed in the logical discrepancy category by the Election Commission will be shown in public places, panchayat and taluka offices.'

The bench said, 'The person collecting documents from voters will give a receipt. However, for inclusion of names in the voter list, the voters will be heard before the Taluka level officials. This hearing in the Supreme Court took place on the petitions of the leaders of the ruling DMK party.

The Supreme Court directed the Election Commission to provide necessary staff to the Tamil Nadu government for this work. The decision also asked the DGP, SP and collectors to ensure that there is no law and order violation to stop the SIR process.
