Jagran correspondent, Mathura. The Irrigation Department is now in a strict mood regarding the illegal occupation of Govardhan Drainage land in Krishnanagar area. The department has started the countdown to remove the encroachment, which is giving sleepless nights to the local people. The Irrigation Department has served eviction notices to 70 house owners and put cross marks on the houses in red ink.

Irrigation department asked to remove encroachment in seven days

In the notice issued by the Upper Section Agra Canal, the land of Khasra numbers 120 and 103 is owned by the Irrigation Department and has issued a notice to the residents here asking them to remove their possession within seven days. If this is not done, the department will remove the encroachment along with the police and its entire cost will also be recovered from the encroachers.

After giving notice, the Irrigation Department team is marking the houses.

Naveen Kumar, Executive Engineer of Upper Section Agra Canal, said that the process of pasting notices on all the marked houses will be completed by January 23. Encroachment will be removed from January 24 with the cooperation of police and administration.

This entire dispute is related to the land of Govardhan Drainage (drain) and the track of Agra Canal. The Irrigation Department became active following the instructions of the National Green Tribunal and the High Court to free the water bodies and drainage systems from encroachment. This land is registered in the records of the Irrigation Department. About 30-40 years ago, people made concrete constructions here, which are now considered illegal under the Drainage Act and Prevention of Damage to Government Property Act.
