PTI, Imphal. Manipur Chief Secretary Punit Kumar Goyal on Tuesday said that around ten thousand people displaced due to caste violence have been rehabilitated in the state since May 2023.

The government has initiated measures for phased rehabilitation of internally displaced persons (IDPs) under the Rs 573 crore rehabilitation package announced in the Centre's Manipur Budget.

At least 260 people have been killed and thousands rendered homeless in the violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in Manipur, while the state is under President's rule since February this year.

"So far, around 10,000 IDPs from more than 2,200 families have been rehabilitated and construction of 4,000 more houses for rehabilitation is under various stages of rehabilitation," the Chief Secretary said. "There has been a significant reduction in the incidents of violence since November 2024," Goyal said.

The State Government with the support of the Ministry of Home Affairs continues to provide necessary assistance in relief camps and additional assistance is being provided through Rural Employment Guarantee Schemes and other Self Help Group initiatives for health care, education and employment opportunities.
