Communication Associate, Sonbarsa (Sitamarhi). In Kanhauli market, around 12:30 am on Friday, masked armed robbers raided the house of a businessman and looted property worth more than Rs 10 lakh.
The incident site is about half a kilometer away from the police station and SSB camp. The incident was carried out by about one and a half dozen miscreants. All the dacoits were armed with knives, axes and bombs.
The dacoits targeted the house of businessman Rama Shankar Gupta (father late Rajendra Prasad). Rama Shankar Gupta runs general stores and grocery shops from his home.
When the dacoits attacked, businessman son Shatrughan Gupta had gone out to get medicine for his ailing mother. While returning, the dacoits standing outside the house surrounded them. Hearing the noise, father Rama Shankar Gupta came out, but the dacoits captured him too.
The miscreants took the homeowner hostage at gunpoint and beat him severely. Due to which his head broke. After this, they snatched the keys of the cupboards and looted property worth lakhs.
Sons Laxman Gupta and Shatrughan Gupta somehow ran towards the market and raised noise and informed people that dacoits had come to their house.
On hearing this, people ran towards his house. Due to which a crowd started gathering there but the dacoits blasted several bombs to spread panic. Due to which people got scared.
Chowkidars Sikandar Rai, Indal Raut and Ramchandra Rai, deployed on patrol, reached there. The dacoits targeted them and threw bombs. However, all three narrowly escaped.
According to the relatives, the dacoits looted gold, silver jewelery and Rs 70 thousand in cash and fled away. As soon as information about the incident was received, Kanhauli police station reached the spot. Teams from other police stations were also called.
SP Amit Ranjan and ASP Ashish Anand inspected the spot in the night itself. Police are scanning the surrounding CCTV footage and trying to identify the dacoits. There is an atmosphere of panic in the entire area due to this incident.
This incident, which took place near the police station and SSB camp, has also raised questions on the security arrangements. Police Station Head Birbal Kushwaha said that efforts are being made to identify the criminals on the basis of CCTV. The criminal gang will soon be detected. An application has been given by the victim homeowner to register an FIR regarding the incident.
