Communication partner, Rudraprayag. In the case of raping a minor and impregnating her, the POCSO special court has convicted Sumit Singh, a resident of a village in Ukhimath area, and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Besides, a fine of Rs 5,000 has also been imposed on the culprit. The victim, after becoming pregnant, gave birth to a dead newborn. Meeting the DNA sample of the newborn with the accused became an important evidence in getting the accused punished.

According to the case registered with the police, on March 9, 2025, the victim's father brought her to the district hospital after she complained of severe stomach pain.

During the medical examination, the victim was confirmed to be pregnant. The same day she gave birth to a stillborn baby. The doctors immediately informed the police.

The victim's father lodged a complaint at Ukhimath police station on the same day. On the basis of this, a case was registered under POCSO Act and investigation was started.

On the basis of the statement of the victim, the investigating officer arrested Sumit Singh on March 10 and presented him in the court after medical examination.

From where he was sent to District Jail Pursari in judicial custody. The post-mortem of the dead newborn baby was completed after filling the panchnama.

The victim's statement was recorded in the court under section 183 BNSS. Apart from this, with the permission of the court, biological samples of the victim, the accused and the dead newborn baby were sent to Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Dehradun.

The FSL report confirmed the victim and convict Sumit Singh as the biological parents of the dead newborn. After investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Sumit Singh in the court.

Special Public Prosecutor Ashish Negi, appearing on behalf of the state, said that a total of 10 witnesses were presented by the prosecution.

After hearing the final arguments of both the parties, Special Judge (POCSO) Sahdev Singh convicted Sumit Singh under Section 65 (1) of the Indian Judicial Code and Section 5 (J) (2)/6 of the POCSO Act and sentenced him to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment.
