State Bureau, Patna. The Rural Affairs Department has prepared a detailed action plan for strengthening and expanding the infrastructure of rural areas of the state for the financial year 2026-27. To speed up the development of villages, the department has proposed a total budget of Rs 11,312.18 crore for the upcoming financial year.
Rural Affairs Minister Ashok Chaudhary gave this information to the House during the government's reply on the budget on Wednesday after the lunch break in the Assembly. In the field of road construction, the Rural Works Department is also playing a leading role in environmental protection and use of new technology.
With the aim of reducing carbon emissions in the environment, 7,214 kilometers of roads have been constructed so far using "waste plastic" and "green technology" in the construction of roads. Apart from this, 6 lakh 40 thousand saplings have been planted by the department to increase greenery along the roads.
Under Seven Nishchay-3, it has been decided to widen the rural roads up to 5.5 meters (intermediate lane) in a phased manner. Through this scheme, major rural roads connecting block, sub-division and district headquarters will be widened to National Highway (NH) and State Highway (SH).
For this, the department has developed a special mobile app and has also completed the survey work. In the first phase, physical verification of a total of 595 roads measuring 1,887.86 kilometers long has been done, the construction of which will be started on priority basis in the coming financial year.
Along with this, a target has been set to construct 3,000 kilometers of new rural roads in the year 2026-27 under the Chief Minister Gram Sampark Yojana (Avassheth). At the same time, under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, 300 kilometers of new roads and 300 new bridges will be built.
Besides, to make the quality of construction works world class, the newly appointed 480 assistant engineers of the department are being given special technical training in IIT Patna. Along with this, “Faceless Autonomous Modern Technology” is being developed to bring transparency in the five-yearly maintenance of roads, which will be implemented across the state very soon.
