Jagran correspondent, Kannauj. Initiatives have been taken to further protect ground water in villages. Along with making ponds plastic free, action for grey-water management has to be taken. For this, proposals have been sought from Gram Panchayats through ADO Panchayat. In the first phase, there is a plan to develop plastic free model ponds in 100 villages. In the first phase, Gram Panchayat with population of five thousand will be selected.
District Panchayat Raj Officer Rajendra Prakash has sent a letter to the Assistant Development Officer Panchayat, Pradhan, Gram Panchayat Officer, Village Development Officer, Block Motivator and Consulting Engineer of all the blocks. Said that ODF Plus model is an important project of village governance.
In relation to the "Plastic Free Model Pond" development program (My Pond is My Responsibility) under the Grey-water and Plastic Waste Management Scheme in rural areas, the nodal officer of Swachh Bharat Mission Rural said that a minimum of 100 such ponds are to be selected from the district, which are directly connected to the drains. There is a situation of garbage dumping around them, due to which the continuous flow of drains is being disrupted.
Contaminated water is flowing into ponds. In the first phase, Gram Panchayats with population more than 5000 are to be selected. Besides, DPR and estimate of ponds of selected gram panchayats have to be prepared and sent to the government. Special priority should be given to cleaning, revitalization, beautification and community participation of ponds.
Under the “Mera Talab Meri Responsibilty” campaign, measures should be taken to remove plastic waste from ponds, prevent garbage bumping in future and for sustainable conservation by ensuring participation of local residents. Regular inspection and reporting system should be developed to maintain the plastic free status of ponds.
