Cyber ​​fraudsters transferred Rs 29.45 lakh to their bank accounts between 2025 and January 2026.

Jagran correspondent, Chandigarh. 70-year-old Bharat Bhushan Sharma, a retired colonel of the Indian Army, was defrauded of Rs 29.45 lakh by cyber thugs. The swindlers posed as representatives of renowned companies and made them withdraw huge amounts of money from their accounts by luring them with good investment returns.

On the complaint of Sharma, resident of Sector-47, the police have registered a case and started investigation. In the complaint, Colonel Sharma said that he is a retired pensioner from the army. His pension is in State Bank of India, Sector-31 branch, while his other savings account is in ICICI Bank, Sector-47 branch.

During August and November 2025, he was contacted by unknown persons claiming to be representatives of IIFL Wealth Management and Ventura Securities Limited. The accused added him to a WhatsApp group. They were promised good returns on investment.

An attempt was made to convince them by showing them fake website links, email IDs and screenshots of alleged investors' profits. Colonel Sharma agreed to his words and transferred a total of Rs 29.45 lakh to various accounts between December 2025 and January 2026.

Initially small withdrawals were allowed, which further strengthened their confidence. Later the accused asked him to invest more. When he refused, the accused blocked him on the WhatsApp group.

Then he went to the offices of these companies and got information and found out that the investment he had made was fake. He then complained about this to the Cyber ​​Crime police station. Police registered the case and started investigating the matter.
