State Bureau, Jagran, Kolkata. The Special Task Force (STF) of Bengal Police on Sunday arrested a youth from Baharampur in Murshidabad on charges of spying for Pakistan. Her name is Suman Shaikh.
He works in a lathe factory in Pune. He used to send one-time password (OTP) to Pakistan through WhatsApp. Police sources claim that the accused had also received money for this through cryptocurrency.
Last week, the police had arrested a SIM card merchant named Zohab Shaikh from Murshidabad. The investigators were suspicious of his activities. Information was received about his connection with Pakistan. During his interrogation, information was received about Suman Shaikh. Several mobile phones and several SIM cards have been recovered from him.
Pakistan used to send OTP
It is alleged that both used to send OTP of Indian SIM cards to Pakistan. The WhatsApp accounts of those using those SIMs on mobile phones in India were controlled from Pakistan. Investigating officials said that the two arrested persons often used to obtain SIM cards using the documents of common people of the state.
They used to open WhatsApp accounts with these numbers. The accused used to send the OTP received for number verification to their handlers present in Pakistan. In return, huge sums of money were deposited in their bank accounts. It is suspected that Pakistani intelligence agents used WhatsApp accounts to gather information about various important persons of India.
