Jagran correspondent, Pithoragarh. On Sunday evening, a couple died tragically when their car fell into a ditch about two hundred meters deep near the ghat on Tanakpur Tawaghat Highway. According to the information received on 112, near Shaheed Dwar, about a kilometer ahead of Matela Band, a car suddenly went out of control and fell into a ditch about two to two hundred and fifty meters deep.
As soon as the information was received, 108 ambulances and Chowki Ghat police reached the spot. Besides, Kotwali Pithoragarh, Disaster Control and SDRF were also informed.
Ghat outpost in-charge Jitendra Soradi, who reached the spot, said that vehicle number UK 06AZ 8788 was found fallen in the ditch, in which two people were inside.
After a lot of effort, the SDRF team took both of them out and took them to the road. Advance action is being taken by the police and the process of sending the dead bodies to the district headquarters is going on.
The deceased have been identified as Yogesh Kumar, 38, son of Jeevan Ram, resident of Bajti, and his wife Nidhi Arya, 34. Yogesh Kumar was working as Bade Babu in Public Works Department, Takana Pithoragarh. His wife was in government service in Ranikhet.
It is being told that the couple had gone to Gangolihat to attend the wedding procession of their uncle's brother-in-law's son. After reaching Lohaghat, the wedding procession was returning to Pithoragarh. In the evening, the vehicle became unbalanced and fell into the ditch, due to which both of them died on the spot.
As soon as the news of the accident was received, there was chaos in the family. A wave of mourning has spread in the village. Police is investigating the cause of the accident.
