Kumar Sanjay, Jagran, Lucknow: At the annual convention of the Indian Society of Nephrology (ISNCon 2025) held at Sanjay Gandhi PGI, experts told that Artificial Intelligence (AI) will quickly prove its usefulness in the field of organ transplantation. With the help of AI technology, the transplant process can be made more accurate, safe and successful in the long term.
Head of Nephrology Department, Prof. Narayan Prasad said that the department is preparing an AI based system, which will analyze large amounts of patients' clinical data, lab reports, imaging, blood group and tissue compatibility (HLA matching). On the basis of this, it will be estimated which donor's organ will be most suitable for which patient. This increases the success rate of transplants and reduces unnecessary wastage of organs.
The role of AI is important after transplantation
The role of AI becomes even more important after transplantation. By continuously analyzing a patient's blood and urine tests, creatinine levels, immunological markers and signs of infection, AI can detect early signs of organ rejection or complications. With this, doctors are able to make changes in treatment in time and prevention of serious conditions is possible. AI technology also helps in determining the dosage of immunosuppressive drugs as per individual need. The immune system of each patient is different and AI data based analysis can determine the right dose of the drug, thereby reducing side effects and protecting the organ for a longer period of time.
Organ weighting will be simple
In a country like India, where organ availability is limited and waiting lists are long, AI can make the organ allocation system more transparent, equitable and scientific. The technology takes a balanced assessment of patient severity, waiting period and clinical priorities.
