State Bureau, Chandigarh. Haryana Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor has been removed from this post by the state government. Shatrujeet Kapoor had gone on leave for two months after his name appeared in the case related to the suicide of IPS Y Puran Kumar.

His leave period ended on Sunday and Kapoor was to rejoin the post of Director General of Police on Monday.

Even before Kapoor could rejoin the post of Director General of Police, the Haryana government relieved him from the post on Sunday night. Shatrujeet Kapoor will now take over as the Chairman of Haryana Police Housing Corporation.

OP Singh became acting Director General of Police

After Director General of Police Shatrujit Kapoor went on leave, the state government had given the additional charge of Director General of Police to DGP rank IPS officer OP Singh. In the new order, the state government has appointed OP Singh as the acting Director General of Police of the state till further orders.

OP Singh, a 1992 batch IPS officer serving as Director General of Haryana State Narcotics Control Bureau and Director of FSL Madhuban, has now also been given the responsibility of Acting Director General of Police.

When 1990 batch IPS officer Shatrujit Kapoor became the Director General of Police of the state, he was also given the charge of the post of Chairman, Haryana Police Housing Corporation, on which his services are now being continued. DGP rank IPS officer Alok Kumar Mittal is the managing director of Haryana Police Housing Corporation.

Retiring on 31st December

The retirement of OP Singh, who was made the acting Director General of Police of Haryana, is on December 31 this year. He has not been able to get extension in service.

Shatrujeet Kapoor's retirement is on 31 October 2026. After deciding the new responsibility of Shatrujit Kapoor, the state government will now be able to send a panel of IPS officers for the post of new Director General of Police of Haryana.

Earlier the state government had sent this panel, which also included the name of Shatrujit Kapoor, but the Central Public Service Commission had returned the panel saying that Shatrujit Kapoor is currently the Director General of Police of the state. The state government will first have to take a decision on their posting, after which a new panel should be sent.

Names will be sent for the new Director General of Police

Haryana Government can now send the names of five IPS officers in the panel for the new Director General of Police of the state.

These include senior-most IPS officer of 1990 batch Shatrujit Kapoor, who will retire on 31 October 2026, 1991 batch IPS officer Sanjeev Kumar Jain, who will retire on 30 September 2026, 1992 batch IPS Ajay Singhal, who will retire on 31 October 2028, 1993 IPS officer who will retire on 30 June 2029. The names of 1993 batch IPS Alok Kumar Mittal and 1993 batch IPS Arshindra Singh Chawla, who is retiring on 30 September 2027, will be included. 1989 batch IPS officer Mohammad Akil is retiring on December 31.

15 officers named in Y Puran Kumar suicide case

The names of 15 retired and present IAS and IPS officers are included in the case related to the suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The SIT of Chandigarh Police is interrogating all of them.

Till now half a dozen officers have been interrogated, but if anyone is affected in this entire case then it is Shatrujit Kapoor, because except the then Rohtak SP Narendra Bijrania, no other officer has been held to account.
