Do not do this work at all
Offering water to Tulsi is prohibited on the day of Ekadashi. Religious belief is that on the day of Ekadashi, Mother Tulsi observes Nirjala fast for Lord Vishnu. Therefore, offering water to Tulsi is prohibited on Ekadashi. Also, plucking basil leaves on this day is also not considered auspicious.
You will not get auspicious results
Keep in mind that there should not be any dirt near Tulsi on Ekadashi or any other day. Along with this, never keep things like shoes, slippers or dustbin near Tulsi. By doing all these tasks you may have to face the displeasure of Goddess Lakshmi.

It is also prohibited to touch Tulsi on the day of Ekadashi, but you can worship Tulsi on this day without touching it. Keep in mind that do not wear black clothes during Tulsi Puja. This may increase negativity.
Will get the blessings of Lord Vishnu
Offering to Lord Vishnu is considered incomplete without Tulsi. In such a situation, during the worship of Lord Vishnu on the day of Ekadashi, definitely include Tulsi in his offering. You can remove basil leaves a day before and keep them. On the evening of Ekadashi, light a ghee lamp near Tulsi and chant Tulsi mantras. By this the seeker receives the special blessings of Lord Vishnu.
