Ritesh Dwivedi, Kanpur. SIR Updates: This time the most discussed issue in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) campaign is about deletion of voters' names. After door-to-door verification and uploading of counting form digitization, names of more than nine lakh voters in the district are in the queue to be removed from the list. There are many reasons behind this like death, migration, tenancy, fake addresses and houses lying closed for years.
If we talk about urban areas, the biggest reason is tenancy. Changed job, changed house but the voter ID remained the same. At many places, the name of the same person was found in two assembly constituencies, while at some places the names of the deceased were found in the voter list. The picture in rural areas is different but equally serious. People who went out in search of employment did not return. In many villages, the entire family has settled in cities but the old address is still there in the voter list.
This time the campaign is different because digitalization has reduced the scope for hiding mistakes. However, the news of deletion of names seems to be worrying the voters as well as the political parties. However, officials are claiming that no name will be removed finally without proper verification and notice.
A total of 35 lakh 38 thousand 261 voters are registered in the 10 assembly seats of the district. Out of these, 26 lakh 32 thousand 557 voters have been digitized. The number of voters who were not found even after arriving with the counting forms more than three times is 32,243.
Most names marked for deletion in Cantt.
The first number in name cutting is Cantt Assembly. After SIR, out of 366954 voters in this Assembly, 1 lakh 26 thousand 338 names have been marked for deletion. At second place, Kalyanpur assembly constituency has 1 lakh 26 thousand 216 names of 367699 voters and in Maharajpur, 1 lakh 25 thousand 727 names of 4,59,884 voters have been marked for deletion. There are 4,06,178 voters in Bilhaur but here 84,649 names, 46942 names out of 3,72,066 voters in Bithoor assembly constituency have been marked for deletion. This data shows that the impact of urban expansion, tenancy and migration is clearly visible on the voter list. The biggest reason among these is absentee and missing voters.
Moderate population, yet huge cuts
Fewer voters, still higher percentage
The assembly with the least number of voters is Sisamau, where 2,63,498 voters are registered, but here about 65 thousand 174 names have been marked for deletion, Arya Nagar has 2,98,875 voters and here 96 thousand 703 names will be deleted.

Notice will be sent first to those marked for deletion from the voter list. 15 days time will also be provided for this. If no one comes even after this then action will be taken to strike off the name.Dr. Vivek Chaturvedi, ADM Finance and Revenue
