Jagran Correspondent, Kolkata: Bihar created an upset by defeating Uttar Pradesh by six wickets in the Group B match of Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This is Bihar's first win after six consecutive defeats. With this win, Bihar is at eighth position in its group with four points in the points table.
Chasing the target of 145 runs, Bihar won with four balls to spare on the basis of player of the match Piyush Singh's innings of 57 runs in 54 balls. Earlier, Mangal Mehrour took three wickets for 12 runs in four overs, due to which Uttar Pradesh could only score 144 runs for six wickets.
Rinku scored 19 runs
Mehrour, who bowled medium pace, got good support from captain Saqibul Ghani (1/20) and Saqib Hussain (1/31). Both of them took one wicket each in their respective four overs. Amod Yadav proved costly and conceded 50 runs for the only success. Mahrour put an end to Rinku's 19 run innings. While chasing the target, the opening pair of Piyush and Ayush Loharuka (36) gave a strong start to Bihar by adding 83 runs in 11.3 overs. Piyush hit four fours and one six in his innings. Bipin Saurabh ensured Bihar's victory by playing an aggressive innings of unbeaten 26 runs in 16 balls. Prince Yadav was the most successful bowler for Uttar Pradesh with three wickets for 24 runs.
Delhi's campaign ends with victory
Yash Dhull and captain Nitish Rana scored half-centuries as Delhi ended their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy campaign with an 18-run win over Uttarakhand on Monday. Dhull (52 runs) and Rana (51 runs) performed well in the tournament but failed to take the team to the next round.
Batting first, Delhi scored 162 runs for seven wickets in 20 overs and then restricted Uttarakhand to 144 runs for seven wickets. Prashant Chopra was the top scorer for Uttarakhand by scoring 54 runs in 50 balls. Suyyash Sharma and Digvesh Singh Rathi took two wickets each for Delhi.
Haryana enters Super Eight after defeating Bengal
Mohammed Shami gave an impressive performance, taking four wickets for 30 runs, but despite this, Haryana easily defeated Bengal by 24 runs in the Group C match and made it to the Super Eight. Both Haryana and Punjab had the same 20 points in the group, but Punjab team remained on top due to better net run rate. Punjab's net run rate was plus 2.716 while Haryana's was plus 0.409.
Shami took 16 wickets in the tournament. Due to his brilliant bowling, the Haryana team, which was looking in a strong position after scoring 170 runs for four wickets in 17 overs, could only score 191 runs for nine wickets. In the current tournament, Shami has bowled brilliantly in the death overs. However, against Punjab, Abhishek Sharma scored a lot of runs against him. In response, Bengal team was all out for 167 runs in 20 overs. For Haryana, Anshul Kamboj, Ishant Bhardwaj and Sumit Kumar took two wickets each.
