Snowfall Continues In Jammu And Kashmir, 50 Flights To And From Srinagar Airport Cancelled; Mughal Road And NH 44 Also Closed

Digital Desk, Srinagar. Heavy snowfall is once again occurring in Jammu and Kashmir. Snowfall continues in other areas of the valley including Kupwara and Pulwama of Kashmir. Roads have also been blocked amid heavy snowfall. At the same time, flights from Srinagar airport have also been cancelled.

In this regard, officials said that due to snowfall in Kashmir, many flights to and from Srinagar International Airport were canceled on Tuesday. An Airport Authority of India official said airlines have canceled some flights today due to bad weather and continuous snowfall at Srinagar airport. A total of 50 flights – 25 incoming and 25 outgoing – have been canceled so far.

Hundreds of tourists, who were scheduled to return from the Valley after spending the weekend and Republic Day holidays, are stranded in Kashmir due to the cancellation of flights. The strategic Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) remained closed for traffic on Tuesday due to fresh snowfall in and around Navyug Tunnel, officials said.

A senior traffic police officer said that no vehicle will be allowed to move from Jammu to Srinagar or from Srinagar to Jammu till further orders. Apart from NH-44, Mughal Road, SSG Road and Sinthan Road are also closed for traffic due to bad weather and slippery conditions, the official said.

Meteorological Department had issued an alert

An alert of rain and snowfall was issued again today in Jammu and Kashmir. Meteorological Center Srinagar had said that there are chances of heavy rain and snowfall in some parts of the state from late Monday evening till the next day Tuesday. In this, winds can blow at a speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour along with thunder and lightning. There will be a danger of landslides and stones falling from the mountains in sensitive areas.
