Jagran correspondent, New Delhi. The engine of a SpiceJet flight going from New Delhi to Leh suffered a malfunction shortly after takeoff. On receiving information about this, the pilot decided to return the flight after taking permission from ATC and landed the plane safely on the IGI runway. There were about 150 passengers on the plane.
Technical problem in engine
SpiceJet flight number SG-121 took off from Delhi for Leh at 6:08 am on Tuesday. A few minutes after takeoff, when the plane was flying, the pilot discovered a technical problem in the engine.
According to sources, light smoke or strange noise was observed in the cabin, after which emergency was declared as per safety protocol. The plane landed on the runway at around 6:45 pm. Meanwhile, all the agencies at the airport were on full alert to deal with any emergency.

Meanwhile, this experience was very scary for the passengers on the plane. As soon as the pilot announced the return of the plane to Delhi, panic spread among the passengers. At the time of landing of the plane, ambulance and fire brigade vehicles were standing on the runway. However, the plane landed safely and all passengers were evacuated.
Aviation regulator, DGCA has taken cognizance of the incident and ordered an investigation. SpiceJet issued a statement saying that the safety of passengers is its priority and arrangements are being made to send them to their destination by other aircraft. Later, a second flight was arranged for the passengers and they were sent to Leh.
