Jagran correspondent, Srinagar. Continuing its campaign to root out drug abuse and drug trafficking in the district, the police registered 172 cases under the NDPS Act during 2025, arrested 291 people and seized and attached property worth more than Rs 40 crore.
According to the police, of the cases reported between January 1 and December 29, 2025, 84 involved small quantity, 66 involved medium quantity and 22 involved commercial quantity. According to the data, police seized various narcotics and psychotropic substances throughout the year and also intensified financial investigations to trace the proceeds of crime linked to their trafficking networks.
As part of these financial investigations, the police froze 208 bank accounts and seized Rs 25.62 lakh in cash, while an additional Rs 2.93 lakh was recovered during the operation. Meanwhile, the concerned authorities seized nine movable properties worth Rs 0.311 crore and attached 29 immovable properties worth Rs 40.27 crore belonging to drug smugglers.
Apart from this, the police also seized 58 vehicles allegedly used in drug related activities. Also, 46 persons were booked under the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in NDPS Act as a preventive measure against habitual offenders. Officials said the operation will continue with a focus on targeting proceeds of crime by disrupting supply chains and preventing repeat crimes.
