Omprakash Tiwari, Mumbai. Rajya Sabha member Sunetra Pawar, wife of late Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, can take oath as the new Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Saturday. According to NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal, he will be elected the leader of the legislature party in the legislature party meeting on Saturday. After this he can be sworn in in the evening. She will be the first woman to hold this post in the state.

CM Fadnavis agrees with NCP's decision

After meeting Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that he agrees with the NCP's decision and the BJP and the government will fully support it.

On Friday, NCP working president Praful Patel, senior leader and state government minister Chhagan Bhujbal and party state president Sunil Tatkare met Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. There was a conversation between the four for about an hour.

Chhagan Bhujbal said this

After this meeting, Chhagan Bhujbal said in a press conference that Chief Minister Fadnavis has agreed to make Sunetra Pawar the Deputy Chief Minister. Bhujbal said that in some families the mourning period is of three days, while in others it is of 10 days.

If there is no problem then after Sunetra Pawar is elected as the leader, she can be sworn in on Saturday itself. Earlier, while talking to the press, Praful Patel had said that he will meet the Pawar family and discuss further plans. There is no opposition to Sunetra becoming the new leader of the party legislature party.

Five people, including Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, were killed in a plane crash in Baramati on Wednesday. His last rites took place in Baramati on Thursday and his ashes were immersed at the confluence of Karha and Neera rivers in Baramati on Friday.

After the death of Ajit Pawar, there were speculations that his wife Sunetra Pawar could become the Deputy Chief Minister in his place. The same demand was being raised from the workers and some senior leaders also, so that the party could be kept united.

Sunetra Pawar had lost the last Lok Sabha election.

Sunetra Pawar had lost the last Lok Sabha election to her sister-in-law Supriya Sule. After that, Ajit Pawar got him the membership of Rajya Sabha and sent him into Delhi politics. If Sunetra Pawar is made the Deputy Chief Minister, then she will also contest the elections from Baramati Assembly seat vacant due to the death of Ajit Pawar.

In such a situation, his eldest son Parth Pawar can be sent to Rajya Sabha in his place. Meanwhile, a source said that NCP (Sharad Pawar) and Sharad Pawar's family members have no knowledge about Sunetra Pawar's plans. They are completely in the dark on this matter.

Discussions of merger between both NCP also intensified

Discussions about the merger of Ajit Pawar led NCP and his uncle Sharad Pawar led NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) have also intensified. These discussions were going on while Ajit Pawar was alive. Within the last one and a half month, 14 meetings have been held regarding the merger of the two parties.

A few days before Ajit Pawar's demise, he had also had a meeting with Sharad Pawar in this regard. It is said that the merger was to be announced in the second week of February, immediately after the Zilla Parishad elections. But meanwhile Ajit Pawar died. As a result of the void created by his demise, the need for the merger of the two parties has become more felt.

Sunetra Pawar and her son can take over NCP

If NCP, Sunetra Pawar and her sons Parth and Jai Pawar agree, the formalities of the merger of the two parties can be completed soon. In such a situation, Sharad Pawar can himself take over the leadership of the entire party by giving respectable position and prestige to Ajit Pawar's family in the organization and in power.

But for this, Sharad Pawar will have to break ties with Maharashtra's opposition alliance Mahavikas Aghadi and become a part of the ruling Grand Alliance and NDA at the national level. Because 40 MLAs of Ajit Pawar's party would not like to leave power and sit in the opposition. If Sharad Pawar and the BJP leadership agree to this, then the impact of Ajit Pawar's demise can be seen on national politics as well.

CID starts investigation into plane crash

Maharashtra's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started investigation into the Baramati plane crash in which Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and four others died.

An official said that Pune Rural Police has registered a case of accidental death under Section 194 of the Indian Civil Defense Code and it has been handed over to CID. He said that the team will also visit the accident site in Baramati. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), working under the Civil Aviation Ministry, is also investigating the accident.
